Executive Coaching & Sparring
Beyond the syntax. I help tech leads avoid self-inflicted wounds, and provide senior developers with an independent sounding board for complex decisions.
How I Can Help You Level Up
Mentorship (Action Reduction)
Moving to Senior isn’t just about knowing more frameworks. It’s about knowing what not to do.
I’ll help you focus on “Action Reduction”—avoiding useless actions like writing complex scripts for simple SQL tasks. We will identify root causes instead of patching symptoms. It’s guided experiential learning on a battlefield, where I equip you with the “armor” (heuristics and root-cause analysis skills) to survive and thrive on your own path.
Coaching & Validation
When you are the smartest person in the room, making big choices can lead to analysis paralysis. Every decision has trade-offs, and you want to avoid unnecessary self-inflicted wounds.
I act as your “Decision Sparring” partner. A peer with 15+ years of experience to discuss, debate, and rigorously validate your proposed architectural solutions before you commit the team to them. I provide the independent sounding board you need to proceed with confidence.
What I Don't Do
To keep my focus on real-world engineering pragmatism, I have strict boundaries:
- — No Juniors/Beginners: I do not teach basic syntax or how to "break into IT."
- — No FAANG Algorithm Grinds: I focus on pragmatic, business-value engineering, not LeetCode puzzles.
What mentees say
"The sparring sessions with Ivan helped me overcome my 'architectural paralysis'. Having an experienced peer to validate my ideas before pitching them to the stakeholders was invaluable."
"Ivan's code reviews are deep and uncompromising. He doesn't just point out syntax issues; he explains the architectural impact of every decision. My approach to TDD and clean code completely changed."
The Process
Mentoring and coaching requires good chemistry. We always start with a mandatory, free 20-30 minute Discovery Call to discuss your goals and see if our mindsets align.
